A Storied Past in Mount Pleasant, NC

Step inside Mount Pleasant, NC’s oldest wooden home on record. Dating back to the 1800s, this long-standing property holds a rich history within its very foundation and is now its first-ever social house restaurant.

About Us

Meet Scott and Amanda Miller - they fell in love with the quaint town of Mount Pleasant and moved here to raise their two daughters in a place that reminded them both of their homes in Alabama and Georgia.

When they saw this home for sale, The Millers were very interested in restoring this historic property and turning it into something others could enjoy, too. But what could appeal to so many diverse guests, including historians, passerby visitors, small-town destination seekers, and our born-and-raised Mount Pleasant locals? It would require the perfect blend of modern-day amenities, adherence to PNC covenants, and preserving its history. The idea was then born to make it a social house, where patrons can enjoy coffee, tea, and light pastries in the morning, and offer libations with shareable plates in the evening. In addition, it will serve as a venue people can rent for special occasions and also host events that are open to the town.

Being in the real estate industry for decades and knowing that restoration efforts take much longer than renovations, the Millers immediately began researching similar-style 1830s homes across the southeast and took notes of the period-specific features they wanted to include in their next steps.

You can learn more about the details of their restoration efforts through their stories and detailed before-and-after pictures.

And so The Cardinal Preserve has taken shape and is a place for people to gather, reconnect with one another, learn the history of this gem, and be welcomed back into a time when life was simpler and savored.

For over 17 months, this project has been a labor of love generating tremendous support throughout the community with excitement and many nostalgic stories from the locals. Scott and Amanda are thrilled to have led such a lovely restoration project with the support of the PNC, the Town of Mount Pleasant, and the local craftsmen who helped make this idea a reality.
